Darkhorse Percussion’s Huntingdon Competition Recap

On Saturday, Darkhorse Percussion won their competition in Huntingdon Area Highschool with an overall score of 60.25. Being an Independent Regional A class percussion unit, getting a high score at a competition requires more than just playing music; it also requires the students to also perform well. Luckily for Darkhorse Percussion, they had an outstanding performance; however, due to a technical issue, it took too long for the electronic section to boot up, resulting in a 6.3-time penalty. Due to this, Darkhorse Percussion’s score went from 66.60 to 60.25. Disregarding the time penalty, as it does not directly impact the students’ ability to perform the show well, Darkhorse did very well. The sub-captions that were judged can bring good in-site for where the ensemble can improve and where they are succeeding . The Music caption got an 18.40, the Music Effect caption got a 21.30, The Visual caption got 14.30, and the Visual Effect caption got a 12.60. With this, we can see that Darkhorse Percussion is doing well in music and music effect but needs further work in visual and visual effect. The secondary ensemble, Darkhorse Percussion Stationary (an ensemble for younger students) also performed at this competition, receiving a total score of 63.10. Darkhorse Percussion Stationary significantly improved their performance, going from 53.00 to 63.10. After the competition held at Huntingdon Area Highschool, both Darkhorse Percussion and their second unit, Darkhorse Percussion Stationary, played a performance for the RAISEtown Care Connect Telethon. Both performances went well. Still, there is plenty of work to be done before Darkhorse Percussion head off the Wildwood, New Jersey for Championships April 29th – May 1st! good luck to all performers to bring home another championship title!
